Sanjay Gupta, widely regarded as the Father of Bharatiya Superheroes, is one of the most influential creative forces in the history of Bharatiya comics. A creator first, and a publisher later, he has dedicated over 40 years to building India’s largest and most iconic superhero storytelling ecosystem. As Co-Founder of Raj Comics, along with ventures such as King Comics, Raj Chitra Katha, Fang Magazine, Raj Kids Comics, Nagraj Novelties, and Raj Motion Pictures, he has played a defining role in shaping India’s comic book industry and contributing significantly to the country’s emerging orange economy.

Beginning his journey in 1982 by joining his family business, Raja Pocket Books, under the guidance of his father Late Raj Kumar Gupta, a master storyteller, Sanjay Gupta started writing at the age of 16. His first written published comic, Khooni Khoj, marked the beginning of an extraordinary career built on relentless passion, writing 365 days a year.

Over the decades, he has created some of India’s most iconic superheroes and intellectual properties, including Nagraj, Doga, Bheriya, Bhokal, Parmanu, Tiranga, Shakti, Ashwaraj, Gojo, and many more. He has written over 250 comics, co-written 500+ comics, and edited more than 2,500 comics comprising over 150,000 pages. As the architect of Bharat’s largest superhero universe and a pioneer of the Bharatiya multiverse concept, he also wrote India’s first crossover comic, establishing interconnected storytelling long before it became a global trend.

His work has reached over 30 crore readers worldwide, making him one of the most widely read creators in Bharatiya publishing history. Beyond writing, he has collaborated with hundreds of leading Bharatiya artists and creators including Late Pratap Mulick, Dilip
Kadam, Late Ram Wairkar, Anupam Sinha, Late Dheeraj Verma, Tarun Kumar Wahi, Nitin Mishra, Hemant Kumar, Lalit Kumar Sharma, Mandar Gangele, and many more. A defining aspect of his legacy is mentorship.

Sanjay Gupta has mentored two generations of over 100 creatives, including writers, pencillers, inkers, colorists, letterers, editors, and translators, significantly contributing to the growth, professionalization, and sustainability of India’s comics ecosystem within the broader orange economy. 

A lifelong comics enthusiast, he grew up reading Indrajal Comics, Amar Chitra Katha, Lotpot, Madhu Muskan, Nandan, Champak, Chandamama, and other classics. He draws inspiration from legendary creators such as Late Stan Lee, Late Anant Pai, Aabid Surti, Late Pran Sharma, and Surendra Mohan Pathak, among others.

Sanjay Gupta has consistently innovated reader engagement through initiatives like Poison Post, Star Mail, Green Page, Abhar Patra, Comic Fest India, and Junoon Mela, including Nagraj Janmotsav, along with active participation in World Book Fairs and Comic Cons. His notable works include landmark series such as Nagayan, Nagraanth, Maharavan, Dracula, World Terrorism, and Lok Yatra.

In recent years, Sanjay Gupta has extended his creative leadership to Alpha Comics, where he continues to mentor emerging talent, guide storytelling frameworks, and contribute to the development of new-age IPs. His involvement strengthens Alpha Comics’ vision of building a contemporary, globally relevant comics universe rooted in Bharatiya culture, while nurturing the next generation of creators and expanding the scope of transmedia storytelling across comics, animation, and digital platforms.

Within a short span, under his creative direction, Alpha Comics has developed over 48 story editions and produced more than 2,200 pages of original sequential artwork, reflecting a robust and scalable content production pipeline. The studio operates with a
multidisciplinary team of 50+ creators, including writers, artists, designers, and production specialists, enabling the parallel development of multiple IPs and reinforcing its position within the evolving AVGC-XR and orange economy landscape.

Beyond publishing, he has expanded into films and transmedia storytelling as a producer of projects like Adamkhor, Mumbai Ka Rakhwala, The Alliance, and Brahmand Rakshak. He has also contributed to industry development as a Founding Member of the Indian Comics Association, an Advisory Board Member across institutions, and a Jury Member for the Comics Creator Championship under the WAVES initiative.

A deeply spiritual individual, he believes that Lord Mahakal, Lord Vishnu, Maa Aadi Shakti, Lord Ram, Lord Krishna, and Lord Hanuman are the world’s first superheroes, a philosophy that strongly reflects in his storytelling. His personal discipline extends to sports like gymnastics, swimming, and bodybuilding.

Known for his defining phrases “Only Raj Comics,” “Raj Comics Hai Mera Junoon,” “Main Comics Hoon,” and “Catch Your Dreams,” Sanjay Gupta embodies a lifelong commitment to storytelling. As Co-Founder and Studio Head of Raj Comics and Founder of Raj Comics by Sanjay Gupta, he continues to lead from the front, working towards his larger vision to position Bharat as a global leader in IP creation and a powerhouse in the global orange economy, aligned with the AVGC-XR mission.
